From foot races to free throws, mini golf to office relays, the olympic-style 2nd Annual Entrepreneur Games drew in nearly twice as many participants as last year and raised nearly double the dollar amount for BUILD Boston. Over 600 athletes, representing ten countries, joined 100+ volunteers on Thursday to play, jump, run, and compete--all to raise $75,500 to benefit BUILD’s youth entrepreneurship programs.
Boston’s tech professionals, CEOs, innovators, and investors all had a chance to relive their athletic glory days on the track, in the gym & dance studio, even on a towering inflatable obstacle course. Volunteers helped participants join collaborative teams categorized by country, featuring players from across the tech sector. Some opted to suit up for their country--Ireland’s team a hulking mass of Kelly Green-- and others, like the PaintNite Crew, dressed (and face painted) to represent their company with pride.
Every athlete played hard throughout the day, from serving volleyballs and lifting kettlebells, to conquering the long jump under the watchful eye of volunteer referees. Crowds swarmed at the edges of the track to watch as the fastest runners crossed the finish line, so fast only a camera could detect who won. Sponsors from Popeye’s Chicken, Honest Tea, Body Armor, Zico Coconut Water, Boloco Burritos, Kind Snacks, and more, worked hard to keep everyone nourished and hydrated throughout this high-energy event.
At the games' closing ceremonies, the best athlete of each of the 32 gaming events received an individual award, but it was Team Vietnam that ultimately raised the biggest trophy for the best overall performance.
